Upon exerting tension or compression on the armed hydraulic jar, the fluid within one piston undergoes compression and transitions to the opposing piston, overcoming high flow resistance. The control over flow rate determines the arming duration-greater pulling or pushing forces culminate in expedited arming. This progression, known as the stroke, peaks when the compressed fluid is abruptly released through a bypass valve, propelling the fluid toward the second piston and instantaneously balancing the pressure between the pistons. Enhanced force application results in heightened fluid compression, diminished arming duration, and amplified jarring impact.
In scenarios where the drill string becomes immobile at the bottom during drilling or experiences twist-offs, the jar delivers a potent upwards release. Conversely, if the pipe becomes immobilized off-bottom within key seats or other impediments, downward jarring effectively resolves the issue. Subsequently, upward reaming techniques facilitate the recovery of the entire drill string, demonstrating the jar's invaluable contribution to successful drilling operations.
Upon encountering differential sticking, mobilizing the immobilized pipe is crucial to reinstating rotation and circulation. In such instances, jars exhibit their versatility, moving seamlessly up and down without disrupting the directional orientation of the drillstring.
