Detail Function:
1.Power transmission and rotational drive;
The Main shaft is directly connected to the faucet and drilling motor, transmitting power to the drill string, driving the drilling tool to rotate and complete the drilling operation. Compared to traditional rotary drive methods, the Main shaft can achieve continuous rotation and casing operation, improving drilling efficiency.
2.Drill string connection and load support;
The main shaft is connected to the integral faucet through a gearbox housing and cooperates with components such as lifting rings and elevators to bear the entire weight of the drill string and dynamic loads during operation. When connecting the column or flipping the eye, the Main shaft ensures the stability and precise alignment of the drill string.
3.Automated control and parameter monitoring;
Modern top drive systems monitor the rotation angle, torque, and other parameters of the main shaft in real-time through sensors, and optimize drilling control using AI algorithms. Material and Manufacturing Standards of Top Drive Main Shaft
1, Material requirements
Hydrogen sulfide resistant alloy steel
The Main shaft needs to be made of special alloy steel that is resistant to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) corrosion to ensure durability in sulfur-containing oil and gas well environments.
The material must meet the low-temperature toughness requirements: when the yield strength is ≥ 310MPa, the single value of impact absorption energy at -20 ºC is ≥ 32J, and the average value is ≥ 42J; when the yield strength is<310MPa, the single value is ≥ 20J, and the average value is ≥ 27J.
High strength alloy steel
Conventional carbon steel (such as 50 C12, 50 C4) or alloy steel (nickel chromium, chromium vanadium steel) used in non corrosive environments require mechanical performance improvement through processes such as hot rolling and cold drawing.
2, Manufacturing standards
Chinese National Standard (GB/T 31049-2022)
It is stipulated that the top drive Main shaft needs to undergo static load tensile testing, and the parameters corresponding to different drilling depths should be clarified (such as Main shaft inner diameter ≥ 102mm at a drilling depth of 15000 meters, and short-term maximum torque ≥ 150kN · m).
New technical specifications for direct drive top drive have been added, requiring the removal of mechanical transmission mechanisms when the Main shaft is directly connected to the motor, in order to improve transmission efficiency to 95%.
API Standard (API Spec 8C/8A)
The design of the main load-bearing component needs to verify the high and low stress zones through finite element analysis, and the safety factor needs to meet the requirements of PSL1 or PSL2 level.
Load verification test is required (e.g. DQ70 top drive test load ≥ 9000kN). Selection and Certification
Land and ocean drilling and production need to be adapted to GB/T 31049 or API standards respectively. Products that have passed ISO 9001/API dual certification can enter the international market.

Maintenance methods for top drive Main shaft
1, Daily maintenance
Cleaning and lubrication
Clean the mud and oil stains on the surface of the Main shaft after daily homework, and use non-woven fabric to wipe key parts (such as taper joints) to avoid chemical corrosion.
Supplement lubricating grease (such as lithium based grease) according to the manufacturer's requirements. The oil injection cycle for the main shaft bearings should not exceed 200 hours, and the oil injection amount should be precisely controlled to avoid contamination.
Fastener inspection
Regularly check the pre tightening force of the main shaft connecting bolts (such as lifting ring screws and coupling bolts), and the torque should comply with the technical manual standards (such as DQ70BS top drive requiring bolt torque ≥ 1200N · m).
2, Regular maintenance
Bearing and seal testing
Disassemble and inspect the wear of the Main shaft bearing every 500 hours, measure the radial clearance with a micrometer, and replace it if it exceeds 0.05mm.
Seals (such as O-rings) should be replaced quarterly, and priority should be given to using fluororubber material to resist hydrogen sulfide corrosion.
Conical interface maintenance
Check the wear of the Main shaft cone mouth every month. When the contact rate of the tool holder is below 75%, it needs to be ground and repaired to avoid excessive jumping caused by the "horn mouth".
3, Fault prevention and handling
Vibration and temperature monitoring
Install vibration sensors to monitor abnormal Main shaft vibration in real-time (threshold ≤ 2.5mm/s). If the temperature rise exceeds 60 ºC, the machine should be stopped to troubleshoot lubrication or bearing issues.
Emergency measures
When the drill suddenly gets stuck, immediately activate the IBOP blowout preventer, cut off the power, and manually turn the disc to release torque to avoid overloading and deformation of the Main shaft.
4, Special maintenance
Electric drive Main shaft: Verify the coaxiality of the motor and Main shaft every six months (deviation ≤ 0.1mm), and clean the cooling channel of the frequency converter.
Hydraulic Main shaft: Regularly replace the hydraulic oil filter element (with a cycle of 200 hours), and the oil cleanliness should reach NAS level 7.
(Note: Maintenance must strictly follow the equipment manual, such as the annual load test required for TDS-11SA top drive.)
