Product Description

The Top Drive Back-Up Clamp is a key supporting device of theTop Drive Drilling system (TDS), which is mainly used to complete the automatic unscrewing and unscrewing operation of the drill pipe during drilling operations. Its core function is to clamp the drill pipe through the hydraulically jaws, and cooperate with the Top Drive to achieve efficient and safe make-up and break-out operations, significantly improving drilling efficiency and reducing the risk of manual intervention.

Function: Structurally, the equipment is usually composed of a tong body, a hydraulic cylinder, a shock absorption system, and an anti-torque frame. It adopts a modular design to adapt to drill pipes of different specifications (such as φ87~φ203mm). Modern top drive back-up tongs have developed into full hydraulic drive technology, with automatic compensation for drill pipe deflection, anti-loosening and anti-slip features, and have become an important part of the standardized equipment of drilling technology in the 21st century.

The core components and functions:
1. Clamp body structure
Dual-cylinder clamp design: The hydraulically driven dual-cylinder synchronously pushes the jaws to achieve balanced clamping of the drill pipe, which is more efficient and reliable than the traditional single-sided clamping method.
Floating pin mechanism: The floating pin supported by the spring automatically compensates for the displacement deviation when the drill pipe thread is screwed together, improving the accuracy of make-up and breakout.

2. Hydraulic drive system
Hydraulic cylinder and piston: The solenoid valve controls the direction of the oil circuit, drives the piston to slide to drive the jaw support to extend and retract, and complete the clamping/release action.
Sealing technology: The oil pouring cup leak-proof structure and the back-clamp sealing pin are used to reduce the risk of hydraulic oil leakage.

3. Clamping actuator
Replaceable jaw module: The optimized jaw (verified by ANSYS static analysis) can reduce the stress concentration of the drill pipe and support quick replacement to adapt to drill pipes of different specifications (φ87~φ203mm).
Anti-loosening device: Equipped with mechanical anti-loosening mechanism and dual PLC control to prevent the clamp from accidentally loosening during operation.

4. Auxiliary function components
Shock absorption system: Integrated shock absorption spring and guide shaft to absorb drill string vibration energy and protect the clamp structure.
Anti-torque frame: Transmits anti-torque to the Top Drive body through rigid connection to ensure operation stability.

5. Safety and adaptability design
Retaining wall support structure: Prevent lateral displacement and enhance anti-eccentric load capacity.
Modular interface: Adapt to mainstream Top Drive models (such as TDS11SA) and support quick disassembly and assembly.
